Do I need an AI visibility tool for my website? When free checks are enough

Last reviewed October 30, 2026

Quick answerNot at first: a weekly check by hand covers 10 to 30 questions in ChatGPT and Gemini. A tracker earns its fee when you need daily history, several models or countries, or visibility reports.

Do you need an AI visibility tool: the short answer

Not at first. A weekly check by hand in ChatGPT and Gemini covers a short list of questions at no cost. A paid tracker earns its fee when you want daily history, more prompts than you can run by hand, several AI models or countries, or visibility reports.

Stay with the weekly check if your list stays short, you sell in one country and nobody asks you for a report. Move to a tracker when you need a trend line instead of a single answer. The button below opens AIclicks' sign-in page with a sign-up link; a card starts its 3-day trial, and the plan you chose is charged when the trial ends unless you cancel.

What a free weekly check covers

ChatGPT web search works on the Free plan and for people who are not signed in, and Gemini Free is $0 a month with a Google Account. Ask the same questions each week in both and record whether your site is named and which pages are cited. Type the same questions into Google to see whether an AI Overview appears, though Google says they often do not trigger.

AIclicks' free AI Visibility Checker adds up to 5 prompts with no signup, and Semrush's checker allows three uses a day with no account. A hand check gives one sample per question, and answers vary between runs, regions, sessions and model versions. The free weekly routine to check AI visibility lists the steps.

Five signs a paid tracker is worth it

  • Daily history: AIclicks tracks prompts daily on all three plans, and its docs say visibility scores update daily.
  • More prompts than you can run by hand: Starter holds 30 tracked prompts, Pro 150 and Business 300.
  • Several models: Starter tracks 3, Pro 4 and Business 6, chosen from the 13 on its pricing table, and its platform lists differ.
  • More than one country: Starter lists 1 country per project, Pro and Business unlimited.
  • Visibility reports: Pro and Business list them and Starter shows a dash. AIclicks' agency page describes white-label client reports and does not say which plan includes them. A two-person agency reporting to five small clients is the clearest case.

What the evidence says about AI traffic

SEOWorks' benchmark of 95 websites, September 2025 to August 2026, found organic search delivered 39 times more traffic than AI assistants. The benchmark notes that its AI figure leaves out Google AI Overviews, which arrive as ordinary organic sessions that GA4 cannot separate.

In its October 19, 2026 issue, Growth Memo looked at four brands and found no reliable link between AI visibility and later branded search or direct traffic. AIclicks' terms promise no ranking, mention, citation, traffic, lead or commercial outcome. A tracker measures presence in answers, not sales.

AIclicks lists a GA4 connection on Pro and Business that shows AI assistant referral traffic, and its docs say some AI visits cannot be identified.

Sizing a first plan

AIclicks Starter is the step up from free checks: 30 prompts tracked daily on 3 AI models for $59 a month, billed monthly, as read on October 30, 2026. Pro is $189 a month, billed monthly, with 150 prompts, 4 models and unlimited countries. Otterly.AI Lite is $29 a month, billed monthly, for 15 prompts.

AIclicks lets you test the paid route for 3 days, though a card is needed up front. Cancel before the trial ends, or the card is charged for the plan you chose. AI visibility tool cost per month sizes plans by prompts and countries, and AIclicks pricing lists every plan.
